Cwmcarn Forest is a large area set in woodland on the site of an old coal mine.  It has been known as the 'Scenic Drive' to locals since it opened but recently they have renamed it 'Forest Drive'. The coal mine lasted up until 1967 where after it closing down they decided to make the area into a large park.  Many trees were planted on the site of the old mine and a monument was erected as a memorial to it's past and many hard working miners.

It has a cafe, lake and paths for walking and cycling around.   The reason it is called Forest Drive is that Cars are allowed to drive into the park.  However, the gates are locked at night.  If you drive to the back of the park there is a toll booth which allows you drive right up to the top of the mountain peaks with your car.  What follows is a fantastic 7 mile trip winding it's way through the forests into the unknown.  It is a lovely place to visit with the family for a day out and a picnic.

In one location there is a spring, which is little known to many people visiting the Scenic Drive.  It was actually tested by scientists and found to be extremely pure water.
