I work as a greenkeeper in a golf club in Gower.
There I was happily cutting the grass on the first green making it into all lovely stripes up and down. I enjoy doing this, it makes you feel good when you see the green all cut to perfection ready for golfers to come along and ruin it. Well when I'm cutting the green obviously I don't expect people to try and play that hole with me standing right next to the flag with all my gear - mower, tractor and trailer attached. But that's exactly what this old couple did.
I looked up and saw the two of them teeing up some 150 yards from me... I had nearly finished and assumed they would wait. They can't be thinking about doing what I think they are right? They were. Wack! The ball landed some 5-10 yards short of the green. I was fuming and walked out of the way for the lady to take her shot next, leaving all my gear in her way on the fairway. She hit her ball which ricocheted off the mower and landed nicely on the green. I wheeled the mower onto the trailer and quickly sped off, lining up my wheel nicely with the guys ball on the fairway to squish it neatly under the ground.
I moved onto the green nearby to start on that one, still in a stinking mood at the audacity of these two golfers. The guy came running over to me and asked if i'd picked up his ball because he couldn't find it. "No" I said. Off he went to carry on with his futile search.
