When I was younger I remember visiting Saunders Bakery and eating their wonderful minced beef and onion pies. They had to be eaten a special way to stop the pie meat oozing all over you when you bit into them. Recently the bakery has been closed down it was a sad time when the shop shut with a notice saying that the owners were retiring. It has been shut for 6 months now.
The good news is that it will be reopening again soon!
At christmas we used to order fruit cake with icing on which had little figures on such as father christmas and skating men with small christmas trees. They would make chocolate yule logs with a real looking brown bark effect. Sometimes they would even cook our turkey for us in their oven! The baker used to take the uncooked turkey and place a little flag in it to show who it belonged to and cook it on christmas eve for us. The other great thing they did was sweet puff pastry mince pies.
They used to do a delivery service well before my time which had one of the first vans in Swansea with a female driver. Almost unheard of at the time.
